Good Movies = Bad Games

A few days ago I was killing time in FYE. I wasn’t looking for anything particular just merely browsing everything. I came across the video game racks after sometime and quickly made my way to the ps2 shelves in hopes of finding some lost relic among the pile of games. Well I was unable to locate any ancient goodies from the past but I came to a realization.

I’ve been out of the gaming console loop for awhile now due to all the time I have invested in to online rpg’s. So, I’m sure when it happened but somewhere along the line their was an explosion of bad games. Namely movie licensed games. Movie licensed games are not a new tread but it seems like EVERY childrens  movie and high budget action flick now also gets a video game deal.

I’m not saying all movie based games are bad. Maybe the pile of garbage being produced is over shadowing the gewdies.

New class announced for D3

Diablo Logo

Blizzard has released a 4th class for Diablo 3. The Monk was recently added to the list of selectable character, joining The Wizard, Barbarian, and Witch Doctor.

Originally Blizzard had stated they will be offering 5 classes with the launch of its game, leaving only one yet to be named class. We can only guess what the last unconfirmed class may be. But if history repeats itself we should see a class that is primarily a physical fighter with sight magic capabilities.  Possibly a class which uses a bow or that can attack from long range. (Something like the Amazon from Diablo 2)

A release date has yet to be named for this future blockbuster PC game. But when it does hit shelves I know where the majority of my time will be spent.

Ways to waste away your break time.

Something I have gotten in to lately is Browser game.  Generally Browser based games and short and simple.  They are games that do not consume much time to play or to manage.

The one I have invested my time in too is Ikariam.

Head back to an ancient time and become a king in the Greek era. Watch your kingdom flourish by building your city’s and devolving your army. What kind of ruler will you be? I heartless savage who preys on the small or a defender of the people.

Visit Ikariam!

Ikariam is a strategy type based game, played in real time. Put your citizens to work collecting resources to further you kingdom.

“Good Enough” Technologies

Posted in Current IT Trends on September 14, 2009 by sinuminstyx

In today’s “economic crisis” when it comes to buying new tech gadgets the average consumer is  buying low-end to middle of the line products rather than paying top dollar for the premium version. Why? Simple. The average buyer  in sense may never use or understand all the extras that comes with the upgraded version.  For example cameras; today cameras come in  all different mediums. Digital vs disposable, Lens quality, types of storage devices. To the mundane buyer all of the options may boggle their mind.

In the last decade we have also seen this change happen in the music business; mp3′s have pretty much replaced Compact Disks. Listeners are sacrificing the superior sound quality that CD’s offer for more compact listening devices. It’s now possible to store hundreds of songs on a computers hard drive where originally thousands of CD’s. This trend leads us to believe that new tech gadgets are “good enough”.

The gaming industry is another example. When Sony released its state of the art PlayStation 3 next generation gaming console, equipped with Blu-ray DVD player and computer like system, projected sales tanked. It was only until the resent months that Sony has seen a pick up in sales. This because Sony has stripped down its high end model. Slimming down the original ps3 package, removing hard drive space, media device inserts and removing backwards capability has Sony now seeing an incline of sales.
